About Kathy and Joe Holden, the founders of Targeting a Cure for Parkinson's

Kathy was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease (PD) in 2011. After taking a year to come to terms with her diagnosis, she and her husband Joe started fundraising for Team Fox. Their Bags Bingo for a Cure, held near their home in Maryland, was a running success for nine years until COVID interrupted. Kathy and Joe are also part of the team behind Tips for Parkinson's D.C., which has raised more than $200,000 in its three years. And, Team SheaKin for a Cure has raised money to support family members running the NYC marathon, hosted cornhole tournaments, and even held a kids’ triathlon. Instrumental in Kathy and Joe’s fundraising efforts has been their immediate and extended family, including their children, grandchildren, and their numerous siblings along with their spouses and children. Notably, Kathy was recently appointed to The Michael J. Fox Foundation Patients Council. “We are very excited to launch this new event, Targeting a Cure for Parkinson’s Golf Tournament at Topgolf,” Kathy says. “We are hopeful that its success will fund much needed research to speed a cure for Parkinson’s.”

About Your Local Captains

Bob Harmon

For the last 16 years the Harmon family has raised over $500,000 for MJFF. Most if our success has been running annual golf events.
We also have spent a lot of time with patient awareness issues support. The entire family has supported  clinical trials. Bob has been an ambassador on many Fox initiatives, both on a local and National basis.

Hillary and Bryan Shields

Bryan and Hillary Shields got connected to the Michael J. Fox Foundation because of Bryan’s father, Bill Shields who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2010. They have participated in many MJFF fundraising events but are looking forward to helping get Targeting a Cure for Parkinson’s off the ground in their hometown of Tampa, Fl in hopes of one day finding a cure for this disease.

About The Michael J. Fox Foundation + Team Fox

The Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF) is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's disease through an aggressively funded research agenda, and to ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson's today. Since 2000, MJFF has funded over $1 billion in research grants and initiatives to speed a cure.

Team Fox is the grassroots community fundraising arm of The Michael J. Fox Foundation. Each year, thousands of Team Fox members worldwide transform their passions and interests into unique fundraising events. To date, Team Fox members have collectively raised over $95 million for Parkinson's research. And, thanks to the generous support of an anonymous donor, 100 percent of Team Fox proceeds from events like Targeting a Cure go straight to the research programs funded by MJFF.
